COVENTRY CAROL
£25.00 by Download £26.00 by Post Medieval English melody (named after the city) originating from the 16th Century. The lyrics dates back as far as the 15th Century and was written for the pageant of the Shearmen and Tailors. It was performed in Coventry (England) and depicted Herod's slaughter of the innocent children. Carols were one of the main forms of music in Medieval Europe. This arrangement begins with a Piano creating a medieval atmosphere as an introduction to this a cappella piece. A flute could take the place of the right hand for added impact. The men's voice section is meant to be menacing and strident. Be careful with the last beat of bar 31, the F natural is designed to create a more sinister effect and is intentional. As featured by The International Staff Songsters on their CD, THE GIFT. Available from SP&S on SPS 204 CD. |
